These products will likely all be on display in the one place at next month’s Taipei Cycle where I’m sure they will be the subject of intense interest. I’ll have some select photos posted here, although I’ll have plenty of shots of a whole variety of products and components in sets on my Flickr page from right across the show.
Complete Bicycle category winner is Giant’s TCX Advanced SL. See the Bike Reviews comments from July 2010. You’d have to say, when it comes to high-end carbon frame manufacturing these days, T-800 fiber and FEA are essential, minimal, elements/processes that you’d be looking for in a quality frame.
The runner up in this category is Asahi Enterprises EZ2 Unicycle.
It will be great to get a closeup look at this “Uni”-bicycle come March 16.
In the Frames category it is Kinesis ISP TT frame in the top spot, a position they occupied last year with their KR-515 frame kit. They also take out this year’s overall award for Best Innovation.
In the Electic Assisted category, IUVO Industry Co.’s Access takes out the top spot, with the runner up being J.D. Components E-bike RPM system.
Wheelsets it is Kenda’s color warning road/racing tire in 1st place, followed by Alex Rims Scandium wheelset as runner up. In third place is Zipp’s (SRAM) 404 Firecrest.
SRAM Taiwan take out top spot for the derailleurs with their XG-1080 cassette. The runner up is Microshifts’ 2nd generation of dual-control levers. Their Taipei Cycle booth is always interesting with the automatic shifting machine doing its thing at the front each year–mesmerizing.
In the tools category, Super B’s TB-3323 Trident Master Link Pliers take top spot. It will be interesting to compare these with YBN’s CLP 102 and CRP 101 which I have found to be very useful indeed.
KMC take out the chain category with their X10 SL Some discussion about it on this Bike Forum thread.
They took out the top place last year although YBN was just behind with . . .
. . . their SLA 11sp offering.
This trend towards self lubrication is interesting but you can question its practicality. I have YBN’s SLF Titanium Chain on a SRAM Force drivetrain and without lubrication, it becomes quite squeaky. Lubrication may not be strictly necessary. However, it sure is less embarrassing when you do apply the oil and eliminate the noise!
First order of the show, though, will be the IBDC awards ceremony that kicks off around 10.30am on the 1st day March 16.
