The weekend’s events have now been cancelled. Organizers have made a wise decision. This is really unfortunate.
The only transport options there would seem to be by air, or from the south. The Pingdong – Taitung road appears unaffected, but with heavy rain forecast there, travel would probably not be a good idea.
Anyhow, if anyone is looking for some dry cycling, head on down to Taichung. It was a bit windy yesterday, but there has been no rain. The official forecast here is for “cloudy with rain” — tomorrow and Sunday “mostly cloudy with showers”. However, right now there is blue sky and the sun is peeking through.
The typhoon is due to track north slowly in this direction over the next few days, so you might expect rain to commence and increase. But no rain is on the official forecast for the Taichung – Tainan area through next week.
Th upshot of all this is: I think you can bank on this weekend being clear for cycling around Taichung.
Any international visitors who were intending to head to Hualien are welcome to get in touch. We can get you cycling some fine byways in Taichung and Nantou counties. All is not lost.
